The latest IPCC report confirmed that increases in water demand has placed stress on supply capacity for irrigation, cities, industry and environmental flows and places water as one of our most vulnerable sectors.
If you or others you know have good sustainable ideas or pratices why not share them with our other members?

Environment debate heats up
Won't it be interesting to hear some of the ideas that will be discussed at the 2020 summit on climate change.
Is it good news that a Bejing coal-fired plant will be the first to trial our CSIROs technology to capture carbon dioxide emissions? We are the biggest producer of coal and they are the biggest consumer.

Environment and BPW
At our 2007 Parramatta conference we passed the following resolutions:
R1 (9): Building networks to raise awareness to reduce water use
MOTION
Furthering the goals of the Women for Water resolution adopted by BPWI in Melbourne 2002, and recognising the importance of water and the impacts of climate change on economy and our communities, in future water security:
1) BPW Australia will raise awareness among BPW clubs/members regarding direct and indirect water use to encourage BPW members to use their purchasing power and networks to reduce water use.
(2) BPW Australia will investigate networks and contacts with environmental NGOs; to leverage the expertise of other NGOs and business and, where appropriate, will support campaigns in relation to effective water use, including lobbying government to support infrastructure upgrades”, recognising the role that women can play in ensuring sustainable water use and industrial practices, in support of the principles defined in the Women for Water Resolution passed at BPW International Congress 2002.
Proposed: BPW Sydney, Caitlin Medley, Tina Clark
Seconded: BPW Adelaide Hills Carried
R2 (10): Climate change and reducing greenhouse emissions
MOTION
Be it resolved that BPW Australia Council lobby the Australian Government:
· to sign and ratify an international treaty within the next 3 years which sets a target to reduce total global greenhouse emissions by no less than 80% of 1990 levels by 2040; and
· to set a national target to reduce Australian greenhouse emissions by no less than 80% of 1990 levels by 2040.
Proposed: BPW MidCity, President Fiona McDonald
Seconded: BPW Sydney Carried
As you can see both of these were carried. This is a clear indication of the import that members place on issues surrounding the environment and we have since written to both Prime Minister Rudd and Minister for the Environment Penny Wong.
You might like to share with other memers what steps you are taking individually or collectively with regard to the environment, and to consider what further action we should take.
